The Drummond Fire Department thanks all of you who contributed to the 2009 Fire Department Fundraiser last June as it made possible the purchase and installation of the 25,000 gallon fiberglass water tank that is now in the ground between Barnes and Drummond, on County Road A, just north of County Road N.  Please see the complete and great write-up of this buried water tank project by Jed Kaurich - Barnes Forester Ranger (DNR).  We thank all of those involved in this tremendous project.

The tank is now installed and operational.  the Bayfield County Highway Department hauled gravel, donated from the Forest Service to the site and the Town of Barnes graded the site.  On Wednesday night, September 30 th with help from all of our mutual aid departments (Barnes, Cable, Drummond, Grand View, & Namakagon), we started hauling water at 1730 from Drummond Sanitary District and by 1930 the 25,00 gallon tank was full and ready to use.  The hydrant system worked as planned.  When the tank  is full and the hydrant is open the water rises in the hydrant to approximately 2 inches below the main pumper cap.  Taking very little suction to prime the pump and start pumping water.  Then when the hydrant is closed the water in the barrel of the hydrant drains out at the bottom (8 feet below ground level) and there is no danger of freezing.

Mark Jerome, Drummond Fire Chief, thanks all involved and the communities thank you for your time and labor on this project.  It has been a pleasure working with each and every one of you bringing a lot of organizations together to work as a team and the the job done.
